SKATESHOP DAY 2023
For those that aren’t aware, Union is independently owned and operated just by myself. I have been at it for 7 years now. Over the years I have had the privilege to take teens and other young adults street skating together and share so much that comes with skateboarding with the local community and keep the home base going for generations from the past to the future. The store is a struggle to keep going, but I feel the liabilities and hardships that come with it are worth it in the end. I am a skateboarder and I feel it’s important to be involved in what’s going on and where things are headed for our local area. Pursuing a skate shop or brand is always a labor of love. Keeping the industry and paying it forward to the core culture is extremely important. The locals and nonlocals that support us here on the website are greatly appreciated. I am truly living a different life than the average dad.
One way we give back to our local community is at the local DIY spot we call The Ruins, which is funded and built by the shop and friends. We have intentions to add spots as much as we can. The location is legal and our local Borough of Beaver poured the black top down for us to build our own spots instead of funding an expensive skatepark that ends up getting boring. Everything has more of a street feel and isn’t as permanent or polished in a DIY spot. So that really works with how our scene is.
I also enjoy making videos, so I am the primary Filmer for our scene. So besides running the shop, I am out with the homies and kids showing them around. Feel free to enjoy our most recent promo and other videos I have on my YouTube page. Hoping to have a new video out here soon!
